That being said, the most important virtue to possess is the virtue of the mind, which refers to peace of mind. After being able to attain peace of mind, accomplishing the other virtues and making good use of them is much easier, since mental pleasure is the basis of every other virtue. Positive thoughts, security, believing and accepting oneself, high self-esteem and more, is what makes one happy and leads the individual in the pursuit of more positive actions, therefore making the individual more likely to obtain the other virtues.The way one thinks of themselves and the attitude that one has about life tells a lot about a person. Edmund Gosse, upon reading her work when he met her in London, recognized Naidus potential but encouraged her to incorporate Indian subjects into her work. Naidu followed Gosses advice, and her first volume, The Golden Threshold, combines traditional poetic forms with lush images of India. The book achieved popular and critical success in England, where Edwardian readers admired Naidus deft handling of the English language as well as the native view of Indian exotica it offered them. Naidus second collection of poems, The Bird of Time (1912), confronted more serious themes such as death and grief as well as containing poems expressing Naidus patriotism and religious convictions. Gosse provided the forward to this volume, noting Naidus rich exploration of complex issues in delicate, romantic language. In her third volume, The Broken Wing (1917), Naidu included more poems of patriotism and description of Indian culture. More important, The Broken Wing contains the work many critics consider Naidus greatest poetic achievement, The Temple: A Pilgrimage of Love. A series of twenty-four poems, The Temple explores the joys, pain, and vagaries of a mature love relationship in graphic, sometimes violent, imagery, and concludes in a meditation on death. The Broken Wing was the last volume of poetry published in Naidus lifetime. Many critics have wondered about the reason for her apparently sudden departure from literary pursuits to political involvement. Some speculate that her popularity dwindled, particularly in England, when she moved away from the flowery, romantic style of her early poetry to a comparatively morbid and contemplative tone in her later work. Others contend that her preoccupation with patriotic themes caused readers to lose interest. In 1961 Naidus daughter published a collection of her previously unpublished poems, The Feather of the Dawn, but it met with little critical interest. Her poetry has since undergone reevaluation by Indian critics, many of whom regard her as one of Indias greatest twentieth-century poets.

Japanese Society essays The Japanese are a society based almost entirely on groups. Whether it is in the home, at school, or at work, the Japanese are always in a group. Just as in America, there is ranking system that establishes the group. The oyabun is the leader of the group, and has the parent status. The kobun are the other members of the group, and they are seen as the ones with the child status. Any person can play both roles, depending on the group that he/she is in. The father may be the oyabun to his son but at work, he is the kobun to the boss. Success and failure is shared by everyone in the group, but disgrace and honor fall to the leader. When problems arise, the leader is the first to take responsibility for the actions/problem. One of the reasons why Japan was able to make such a great recovery after World War II was because the country as a whole, came together as a group to rebuild their home. Villages were very close, and in this way, the group became more important than the actual individual. Now, this is the case in places besides villages, such as work and school. When one is accepted into a certain school or workplace, he automatically becomes a member of the group for life. The people at these places become his tight knit friends. No matter where a Japanese goes, he is followed by the group mentality. When he is out at dinner with his fellow colleagues, he must order what the others, particularly what the boss, or highest ranking person that is present, is ordering. During decision making, the Japanese never say no. They always have to come to some sort of conclusion where everybody in the group agrees, or come to a consensus, no matter how long it may take.
